Sunny Ridge Family Center is licensed as a child welfare agency by the Illinois Department of Child and Family Services (#019976), and by the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration, Division of Family and Children, as a child placing agency.

Just as each and every child is unique, so too will be the steps along the way in completing your adoption. However, there are several common steps that adoptive parents must take. Below is a brief step-by-step process for an international adoption.
  1. Attend one of our free Information Meetings at Sunny Ridge and in the community—or make an appointment for a private consultation.
  2. Thoughtfully choose the country your child will come from, as well as the placing agency, if other than Sunny Ridge.
  3. Apply to the Sunny Ridge International Adoption Program. Included at this time is a $250 application fee.
  4. Home Study begins
  5. Apply to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (CIS) (Form I-600 A and supporting documents)
  6. Prepare Dossier
  7. Your Home study and dossier is sent to country or placing agency
  8. Wait for referral to arrive. Accept referral of your child
  9. Travel to foreign country if necessary, to complete adoption.
  10. Post placement services and re-adoption in your state of residence.
