Correspondence Support: Sunny Ridge can help facilitate communication between adoptive and birth families by appropriately forwarding the letters, pictures, and/or packages you send. Approximately 350 letters pass through Sunny Ridge Family Center in a year. The handling of each item may include re-packaging, postage, envelopes, photocopies, filing, telephone calls, and other documentation important in maintaining your child’s record. Keep in mind that in addition to postage and materials, the cost to Sunny Ridge in handling an item is about five dollars. Please consider helping offset these costs. Fee: Donations are welcome.

Non-identifying Medical/Social Information: So often our families have questions about their own, or their child’s medical and social history. Sunny Ridge can provide photocopies of all the recorded medical history related to your birth family—to adult adoptees, as well as to adoptive parents of minor children. We can also provide all background history of birth family members that was included in the file at the time of the adoption. This service can also provide for you information on whether there has been any subsequent contact with anyone in your birth family since the time of the adoption. Fee: $50

Brief File Check/Update: Sunny Ridge maintains comprehensive files on all of our adoptions, and these files provide a great deal of information. At your request, our staff can retrieve files from storage and review the file related to your inquiry, or check to see if new information has been added. This service can assist you in answering a wide variety
of questions you may have. Fee: $25

Consultation Services: Sunny Ridge Consultation Services provide time with a professional counselor, and can include: assessing with you, your needs for post adoption services; assistance in negotiating relationships, (often valuable in semi-open adoptions or for those considering opening up an adoption), or developing a plan of action with you. At your request, our staff can also call or correspond with an individual to express your interest in contact. We can facilitate communication within your adoption community, and provide mediation services to establish healthy relationships that consider everyone’s point of view. Fee: $75 per hour

Counseling Services: Our Counseling Services can provide a wide variety of services to you, including: family counseling or individual psychotherapy provided by a licensed clinical professional; counseling for adoptees to interpret birth family information and the circumstances surrounding their birth parent’s adoption plan; individual or family sessions to prepare for meetings with other members of your adoption community; as well as referral services. Fee: $75 per hour

Meeting Arrangements: Many birth and adoptive families continue to meet through the years but prefer to have a Sunny Ridge professional make the arrangements. This service provides the arrangements for meetings between families, and may be held on the Sunny Ridge grounds or at another mutually agreed upon location. Fee: $25. If Sunny Ridge staff presence and facilitation of meeting, or for all meetings held during non-office hours, $75 per hour. Some services may be billable through your insurance, and adjustments in fees may be made for those who are unable to cover fees.
